Information Protection
Information privacy protection is legislated in Ontario under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
Ryerson has established its own Information Protection and Privacy Policy, which is administered by the office of the General Counsel.
Information Protection within Physics
In accordance with Ryerson's policy, Physics takes every possible precaution to protect the privacy of information associated with our students, including e-mail addresses, grades, and student numbers.
As such, grades should only be recorded on Black Board except in exceptional circumstances. Faculty members who must record grades on a computer must ensure that the laptop is password protected. Alternatively, encrypted USB keys may be used to transport files containing sensitive information between computers.
Breaches in privacy need to be immediately reported to the department chair and the University's General Counsel.
